There are many opinions on what is the best form of diet for your feline. We have noticed that Siberian Cats and Kittens are particularily sensitive to certain ingredients in processed cat foods. Some companys do a great job in maintaning consistant quality ingredients with natural preservatives. Things to remember in selecting what form of diet to choose are, canned foods are mostly water and soft in consistency. Siberian cats and Siberian kittens need to chew to maintain good dental health and produce optimun digestive enzymes. Canned foods are very palatable and can be used as a add-to supplement for dry foods. Dry foods are the most economic and easiest to manage. They promote chewing and good dental health. Dry foods,like canned foods aren't always fresh and contain 50% + carbohydrates. The Siberian Cat is a carnivorous animal and requires less than 10% carbohydrates in its normal diet. Meat proteins are essential to build a good amino acid profile and should be the first listed ingredients, avoid secondary proteins such as soy bean meal, corn gluten meal and other grain proteins. Freshly prepared meat/rice diets are the best, but expensive and very time consuming. Maintaining the proper protein-fat-fiber ratios are difficult. We recommend supplementing a good dry food diet with fresh meats twice a week. Fats are an essential energy source for carnivores. Unsaturated fats such as chicken fat are recommended. Avoid saturated fats such as beef tallow. Again, Siberian cats and Siberian kittens are more sensitive to some ingredients found in processed foods. Good balances (30/20 Protein/fat), consistency of quality ingredients, freshness and natural preservatives are the keys to maintaining a healthy and amazing Siberian cat or kitten.
